Second Prof. V S Vyas Memorial Lecture

Land Titles and Agricultural Productivity
Land is one of the most controversial subjects, with maximum litigations and lack of land records result in long drawn legal conflicts. Providing formal titles ensures security of land tenure, and develops markets for land and credit. Land titling attracts long term investments and ensure efficient use of resources. A clear land title enables the farmers to access government schemes. The rural development ministry has decided to digitalize land ownership records, which is a welcome move, but not sufficient enough to ensure conclusive titling. However, the issue of land titles and its impact on productiveness has not been adequately addressed in the Indian context. This lecture is an attempt to explore the association between land titling and farm productiveness, which, in turn, results in farm income.
